The most important destinations in northern Peru include Chiclayo, Cajamarca, and Kuelap, as well as Iquitos in the northern Peruvian Amazon.

The first three destinations are important because of their historical significance, with impressive ancient, pre-Inca ruins and archaeological treasures to visit. Kuelap has even been called the “next Machu Picchu,” because it is a massive fortress near the Amazon Rainforest basin, that was built by the Chachapoyas people. With improved tourist infrastructure and transportation, it will be much easier to travel to and visit Kuelap and the neighboring sites.
