Cruise through the Andes Lakes District from Bariloche
Bariloche sells itself as the “Gateway to Patagonia”. And a lot of the landscape you see is actually both. East of town, the steppes of Argentine Patagonia extending all the way to the Atlantic Ocean, but West of town, unmistakably the green lush landscapes of the Lake District. With the Chilean part of the Lake Region, you can connect by the wonderful “Lake Crossing” that takes you over three lakes and one mountain pass over to Puerto Varas and to Puerto Montt or you can take the faster bus via beautiful Villa La Angostura.
Take a Bariloche Lake District Tour to discover this beautiful region. Admire the beautiful landscapes made of lakes such as Nahuel Huapi, Gutiérrez Lake, Moreno Lake, and Mascardi Lake as well as mountains with Tronador, Cerro Catedral, Cerro López. Go to Llao Llao and Campanario Hill to have a stunning view of Bariloche and its surroundings. Visit Nahuel Huapi National Park, see the beautiful clear water of Nahuel Huapi Lake and discover its rich wildlife including river otters, foxes, cougars, and many different species of birds. Go to Los Alerces to see its tremendous waterfall: La Cascada los Alerces.
Combine Bariloche Lake District tours with Chile Lake district tours to discover more of the lake district region. You should also add a visit to Buenos Aires on your flight in or out of Argentina. You can see below some of our tours that include Bariloche Lake District tours.
Things to Do in Bariloche
One of the reasons why we highly recommend Bariloche as a top destination is the fact that you can get to do a wide variety of outdoor activities depending on the season you are visiting the city. Bariloche is famous for its amazing ski resorts. And if you want to practice some winter sports, make sure you plan your trip from late June to September. This way, you will almost be guaranteed to have fresh powder snow.
If you visit the city in summer or spring, from November to February, you will find a completely different landscape. The mountains are green and the city looks more like a giant garden full of flowers of every color. This is the perfect time in Bariloche for other outdoor activities such as trekking, bike riding, and swimming in one of the many lakes.
How to Get to Bariloche
Bariloche can be reached by land from Buenos Aires on a road trip that takes around 22 hours. The ticket price is fairly economical and gives you a good opportunity to see some of Argentina’s landscape. You can also reach Bariloche by air from Buenos Aires. There are currently two airlines covering this route. The carrier own by the Argentine government, Aerolineas Argentinas, and the Chilean carrier LAN. The ticket price is relatively expensive (compared to domestic flights in Europe) but if you have a limited time in the country and you rather spend more time in each destination, the air ticket is definitely worth the extra money.
