Experience Colonial Gems on a Luxury Tour of Ecuador
We recommend beginning any honeymoon in Ecuador in the city of Quito. Quito is the epitome of a colonial gem, as it was declared one of the world’s first UNESCO World Heritage sites. Its historic center is one of the largest and most well preserved in the Americas! Take a romantic stroll and see all of the well-preserved monuments and buildings lit up under the night sky. Also, what better of a place to rest your head than the colonial mansion of Casa Gangotena, located right in the heart of the historic district.

The city and surrounding area of Quito has a lot to offer for those looking to make the most out of their stay. North of the city is the Middle of the World Monument which sits on the exact equatorial line. Visitors love physically straddling the equator with one foot in the northern hemisphere and one in the south!
Handicrafts at the Otavalo Market in Ecuador
Another excellent choice for a romantic day trip in Ecuador is the famous Otavalo Market. Many locals, also called Otavaleños, come together here to sell their handicrafts. This large and colorful outdoor market in South America is a great place to pick up a gift for a loved one. Saturdays usually have the most vendors, so it is often the best day to visit.
Discover Incredible Landscapes on a Luxury Tour of Ecuador
From Quito, we recommend boarding the Tren Crucero. The Tren Crucero is a four-day train journey that travels south, taking guests through the Avenue of the Volcanoes.

There is no better way to enjoy the landscapes of the Ecuadorian Andes than aboard the Tren Crucero. Sit back and relax while the train passes at least 20 different volcanoes and mountains along its journey, through sugarcane, banana, and cocoa bean plantations. This journey lets you discover the heart and soul of Ecuador, by visiting local towns and indigenous markets. You can witness the local culture first hand which is still very well preserved and alive in this region of Ecuador. The train allows couples to experience a combination of adventure and relaxation.
Spot Unique Wildlife on a Luxury Tour of Ecuador
The Tren Crucero conveniently ends in the coastal city of Guayaquil. This city is a good starting point for the Galapagos Islands, a must-see destination on any Ecuadorian honeymoon. The Galapagos Islands are most commonly visited by cruise ships that sail to some of the lesser inhabited islands. There are options as well to stay on the islands and take day excursions. However, Galapagos cruises allow you to see more diverse species of wildlife.

For a luxury honeymoon, I recommend staying aboard the Petrel Cruise. The Petrel is a 16-passenger catamaran, which is excellent for those looking for a more intimate experience since group sizes will be smaller. The cabins aboard the Petrel are spacious, and all include a private balcony, great for watching sunsets each evening!

The cruise itineraries range from 4-8 days. However, for a honeymoon, I recommend a minimum of 5 days to give enough time for both exploration and relaxation.
Extend Your Tour of Ecuador with the Amazon
Depending on the amount of time you have, you could opt to add on a few nights in the Amazon Rainforest. La Selva Lodge is an excellent option for honeymooners; located on a secluded lake within the rainforest. The rooms within the lodge offer all the luxurious amenities you would need in a hotel, but situated in the heart of the Amazon Rainforest.

Join in daily activities like jungle walks, canoe explorations, kayaking, or spend time pampering yourself in the spa while enjoying the sounds of the rainforest. Whichever of these destinations you decide upon for your honeymoon to Ecuador, you won’t be disappointed. With everything this wonderful country has to offer you and your loved one, it will be a trip you will never forget!
