Itinerary

Day 1Arrive in La Rioja

Upon arrival, your transfer will be waiting to take you to your hotel in La Rioja. Enjoy your welcome reception and meet the friendly faces that will be with you during your trip.

Day 2Ischigualasto Provincial Park & Talampaya National Park

Get ready for your excursion to Ischigualasto Provincial Park, also known as the Moon Valley in San Juan and Talampaya National Park, a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site. Throughout your visit here, you will see the entire sedimentary strata from the Triassic Period. In the Ischigualasto Provincial Park, you will enjoy a 3-hour circuit tour, complete with 5 fantastic stops.

At each stop, you will observe a new formation, whether it be the Worm, bocce court, the submarine, the mushroom, or the red canyons. Around noon you will continue to Talampaya National Park, where you will complete the 2.5-hour “Talampaya Canyon” circuit tour. On this tour, you will drive past some of the most impressive landscapes, between straight and imposing cliffs 150 metres high (490 ft). As you travel past the Grand Canyon, look evidence of the former inhabitants of the region petroglyphs, vegetation, fauna, geo carved by erosion and more. Some highlights include the Wizard King, the Gothic Cathedral, the Tower and the monk forms. In the afternoon, transfer to the Villa Union.

Day 3Laguna Brava

Today, you will embark on your excursion to Laguna Brava Vicuñas Reserve. Your tour will start at 8.30 am, to ensure there is enough time to visit Vinchina, Diaguitas Stars, stunning geological folds of the Quebrada de la Troya. You will see quite an assortment of scenic beauty. In one day you will climb the Andes passing through two very different Valleys, Quebrada de la Troya and the multicolor Quebrada del Penon. Once you reach the large highland, at more than 4,000 meters (13,100 ft), you will find the Laguna Brava. Laguna Brava is surrounded by numerous volcanic peaks and has been declared “Vicuñas Reserve” to protect the flora and fauna. In the afternoon, return to the hotel in Villa Union.

Day 4Cuesta de Miranda & Chilecito

On the fourth day, you will begin another excursion, this time to Cuesta de Miranda and Chilecito. You will leave Villa Union, crossing the mountains of Famatina past the colorful Cuesta de Miranda. Throughout this day, you will visit the historical monument of Mina La Mexicana Cable, station 1, the mining museum, Samay Huasi museum Joaquin V. Gonzalez, Santa Florentina winery, and Rio del Oro. For a special treat, as you near the end of your vacation, you can go to a wine tasting at a private winery to try the famous Torrontes white wine. In the afternoon return to the city of La Rioja by Los Colorados.

Day 5La Rioja & Departure

Transfer to the airport and catch a connecting flight home or to the next destination in South America. This tour can be easily customized to include any additional destinations.
