Your Amazon cruise is on the M/Y Tucano, a small, authentic, yet comfortable ship with just nine cabins – all with private bathrooms. The cruise starts and ends in Manaus. A typical day will see you make excursions into the forest, this could be on foot, by small boat or kayak. You can visit remote villages, fish for piranhas, and enjoy guided walks along the way. The ship is among the most sustainable in the Amazon, solar energy is used, guides are well trained in responsible tourism practices and trips are operated in a way that aims to minimize the impact on the environment.
Your floating Amazon lodge is Uakari Lodge, reached by a flight from Manaus to Tefe and then a 90-minute boat ride. There are 10 guest rooms in this community-run lodge. During the Amazon high water season, the lodge does not touch land and is completely floating with excursions being carried out via the river in small boats. In the Amazon dry season (September to March), excursions are on foot and by boat.
If you’d like to combine the Brazilian and Colombian Amazon, a stay at Calanoa Lodge is an excellent option. The lodge is right on the banks of the River Amazon and has several interesting communities nearby. Pink river dolphins can often be found in the area. This is a great way to link Brazil and Colombia.
Optional: extend the trip into the Colombian Amazon.
