Language Information
The official language of Ecuador is Spanish, and not many locals speak English. Before you travel to Ecuador, we recommend brushing up on a few basic Spanish phrases.
Learning a few basic Spanish phrases will make it much easier and enjoyable as you travel through Ecuador. For those handy with a smartphone, we recommend downloading the βDuolingoβ app. This app provides short and fun lessons in Spanish, Italian, French, German, and more.
If you donβt have access to a smartphone or are looking for a more intensive program, we recommend taking a “Spanish for Travelers” class at your local community center. Or, you can always download the Rosetta Stone software, popular for learning foreign languages. Many travel guidebooks include brief language sections. Study up before leaving for Ecuador. With some familiarity with the language, you might even be able to impress some of the locals!
While not many locals speak English fluently, most staff at hotels, restaurants, and tourist locations will speak English. All of our tour guides are English-speaking and other languages can be accommodated. Just ask!
