Airfares typically depend on the season. If you’re looking to visit Chile from December to February or June to August, expect airfare to be higher than normal, as this is the time when Chile experiences their summer holiday months. If you visit during the shoulder period, during March and November, fares will slightly drop. The low season, however, during April, May, September, and October offer travelers the lowest airfare prices.
The most common way for travelers to reach Chile is by flying into Santiago’s modern international airport. But that doesn’t stop a few traveling to Chile by land from a nearby country, or on a luxurious cruise by sea.
Travelers from the United States shouldn’t have a hard time finding an available flight to Santiago. Non-stop flights are offered through American Airlines, Delta, and LAN. Unfortunately, there are no direct flights to Chile from London or Dublin.
The central airport in Chile is Santiago’s Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport (SCL). Air carriers to Santiago include LAN Airlines from multiple cities in North and South America as well as Oceania and Europe; Aerolíneas Argentinas; Air Canada; Air France; American Airlines; Avianca; Copa; Delta; Iberia; Pluna and TACA. The Mataveri International Airport on Easter Island receives only LAN Airlines flights from Santiago. There are three major domestic carriers: LAN Airlines, Sky Airline, and Principal Airlines.
For those that are on a long journey, with Chile being only one of the many destinations scheduled, consider purchasing a “round-the-world” ticket. An air pass is also an option.
