Flight Information

There are many international airports to choose from when flying to Colombia. International airports are located in several major cities in Colombia including Bogota (BOG), Medellin (MDE), Cali (CLO), Barranquilla (BAQ), Bucaramanga, Cartagena (CTG), Pereira (PEI) and the islands of San Andres Islands (ADZ). Colombia’s largest international airport is Bogotá’s newly renovated Aeropuerto Internacional El Dorado. Note that in Medellin there is one international airport and a separate domestic airport.

Given the good choice of airlines flying to Colombia, prices from the US and Europe are considerably lower than they were a few years ago.

Flights from the USA to Colombia

There are plenty of direct flights from the USA to Colombia. These include flights from Miami to Bogota with Avianca, Latam, and American Airlines. Flights from Miami to Cartagena with American Airlines and Avianca; flights from Miami to Medellin with American Airlines and Avianca; flights from Miami to Medellin and Cali with both American Airlines and Avianca; flights from Miami to Pereira and Barranquilla with American Airlines. Many other US cities have flights to Bogota including from New York airports with Avianca and United, from Atlanta with Delta, from Los Angeles with Delta, from Houston with United, from Dallas with American and from Washington DC with Avianca.

Some budget airlines both American and Colombian connect the US and Colombia too. These include Viva Air from Miami to Medellin, New York to Cartagena with JetBlue, Fort Lauderdale to Cartagena and Bogota with both JetBlue and Spirit.

Flights from Canada to Colombia

Air Canada Rouge flies from Toronto to Bogota. There are also seasonal flights from Toronto and Montreal to Cartagena with Air Canada Rouge and Air Transat.

Flights from Europe to Colombia

Avianca flies direct from London Heathrow to Bogota and from Munich, Madrid, and Barcelona to Bogota. From Madrid, Iberia and Air Europa also fly to Bogota. Avianca, Iberia and Air Europa also fly to Medellin and Avianca also to Cali. Air France fly from Paris to Bogota. KLM flies a useful triangular route Amsterdam – Bogota – Cartagena – Amsterdam. Lufthansa flies from Frankfurt to Bogota. Turkish Airlines fly from Istanbul to Bogota returning via Panama City.

Flights from Asia to Colombia

Your best option will usually be via Europe or North America. There are no direct flights between Asia and Colombia.

Flights from Africa to Colombia

Fly through Europe is usually the best way to get from South Africa to Colombia. You could also fly via Brazil.

Flights from the Middle East to Colombia

There aren’t any direct flights from the Middle East to Colombia but connections are good through Europe.

Flights from Australia and New Zealand to Colombia

The best connections from Sydney and Auckland to Bogota are usually through Chile or the USA.

Domestic flights in Colombia

The main domestic airlines in Colombia are Avianca and Latam. There are also a number of smaller airlines that fly to more unusual destinations or less common routes, such as Satena, Easyfly, and ADA. Budget airlines include Viva Air and Wingo.
